Surfrider Foundation has launched a campaign to rid us of plastic straws and you can help.
Plastic straws end up in the ocean. We use 500 million straws every day in this country. This number can wrap around the Earth 2.5x and fill Yankee Stadium 9x a year. They are hardly ever recycled. If we don’t act now, by 2050, there will be more plastic straws than fish in our oceans.
WHAT CAN YOU DO? When ordering a drink, ask the server not to include a straw. Encourage the restaurants to either use paper straws (those old-fashioned kind) or at least only supply straws on request.
