Hikes

  • Mt Calavera

This is a moderate two hour hike to the summit of Mt Calavera. We meet in the parking lot of Oak Riparian Park. Oak Riparian Park is located off Lake Boulevard. Wear shoes with tread and bring water. Restrooms are available in the park. We will start in the riparian area, then see the famous Caltrans mitigation site, and then up to the summit. From the summit we can see where the next 870 homes will be built at Calavera Hills and the slopes that are now covered with coastal sage scrub that will be destroyed for the extensions of College Blvd and Cannon Road. For more information call 724-3887.

  • Dawson-Los Monos Reserve

This is a rare opportunity to hike into the Dawson-Los Monos Reserve. Hike will be led by the Reserve Manager, noted biologist Isabelle Kay. Meet in the parking lot of Buena Vista Park off of Shadowridge at Antigua Dr in Vista(by the duck pond). Learn about the reserve and how this special environment is being impacted by adjacent development. For more information call 724-3887.
